Anton Hur: Live in London
We are thrilled to welcome Anton Hur, Fiction judge of the 2025 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize, to our institutional home – Queen Mary University of London – to deliver a writing workshop and public lecture this autumn.
Following his essay for Wasafiri, ‘We Have Arrived: Anton Hur on Han Kang’s Nobel Win’ – where he brought his trademark wit to reflect on the 'earthquake' moment of Han Kang winning the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature – Anton Hur will reflect and comment on the art and praxis of translation, literary prize cultures, and Korean literature at two Wasafiri hosted events on 28 and 29 October, 2025.
He will also attend the 2025 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize ceremony at the Southbank Centre on 30 October, 2025, and present the Fiction winner.
Pitching Your Translation: A Writing Workshop
How does a translation project find a publishing house? Translator and novelist Anton Hur describes the pitching process behind bringing a translated book to the attention of Anglophone publishers and discusses various issues surrounding the profession of literary translation.

Prizing Korean Literature: A Public Lecture
Join Wasafiri and Anton Hur to explore the future of Korean literature on a global stage and discuss literary prize cultures and translation in this public lecture at Queen Mary University of London, the institutional home of Wasafiri magazine.
Anton will contemplate the meaning behind Han Kang's monumental Nobel Prize win – exploring what it means for the future of Korean literature on the global stage – alongside a wider discussion on literary prize cultures, translation, and the Anglophone publishing and literary landscape.
Anton Hur has been a judge for the International Booker Prize, the Dublin Literary Award, the National Translation Award for Prose, and is on the jury for the 2025 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize.

Anton Hur is a translator and author working in Seoul. He is the author of Toward Eternity (HarperVia) and No One Told Me Not To (Across Books). He was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and raised in British Hong Kong, Ethiopia, and Thailand, but mostly in Korea.
