Esme Feurtado

Esme Feurtado is an AHRC-funded PhD student supervised jointly between Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and King’s College London (KCL). Her thesis, ‘Feeling Out of Humour: Black Humour and (Dis)affective Refusal in 21st Century Black Literature’, focuses on humor and humourlessness in the work of Paul Beatty, Percival Everett, Claudia Rankine, and Natasha Brown, (amongst others), as laughter-inflected affects used to refuse, deny, and subvert the logic of race and racism.
